Jude 22

I’m Carter Uldrych, a missionary to Yokohama, Japan — going to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, disciple believers, and help plant churches among a people in need of the Gospel.

“How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” — Romans 10:14

私について · Who I am

My calling.

I was born in China in 2003 and adopted at the age of two into a Christian home in Phoenix, Arizona. I was saved at the age of six, and though my teenage years held their share of struggles — including losing my mother at seventeen — God never stopped working in my life.

At a youth conference at West Coast Baptist College, God turned my heart toward full-time ministry, and after my first year of Bible college I surrendered to His call. During two internships in Japan — five months in all — God gave me a deep love for the Japanese people and a burden for their need of the gospel.

In my final semester I took a survey trip to Yokohama and spent two months serving with Pastor Aiki Kage at Kohoku Newtown Bible Baptist Church. Now, as a graduate of West Coast Baptist College, I am returning to train under Pastor Aiki Kage — learning the language and culture, serving through English outreach, and, in God’s timing, helping to plant churches and see existing churches revived across Japan.

ビデオ · Watch & share

My deputation video

A short presentation of my testimony, my calling, and the need in Japan — the same one I share with churches on deputation. Feel free to share it with your church or a friend.

信仰告白 · What we believe

My statement of faith.

Six convictions anchor my life and ministry — the faith once delivered to the saints, carried now to the people of Japan.

01

The Scriptures

I believe the Bible is the verbally inspired, inerrant Word of God — our final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

II Timothy 3:16–17 · II Peter 1:20–21

02

God

I believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — equal in every divine perfection.

Deuteronomy 6:4 · Matthew 28:19

03

Jesus Christ

I believe in the absolute deity and virgin birth of Jesus Christ, His sinless life, His death for our sins, His bodily resurrection, and His personal, imminent return.

John 1:1, 14 · Titus 2:11–14

04

The Holy Spirit

I believe the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, regenerates and indwells every believer, and empowers us for holy living and service.

John 16:8–11 · Acts 1:8

05

Salvation

I believe salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone — a gift, not of works — and that every believer is kept secure in Him forever.

Ephesians 2:8–9 · John 10:28

06

The Church

I believe the local church is God's organized body of baptized believers, observing two ordinances — baptism and the Lord's Supper — and commissioned to carry the gospel to every creature.

Acts 2:41–42 · Matthew 28:18–20

日本 · Where I am going

Yokohama — 3.7 million neighbors who need the gospel.

Yokohama is Japan’s second-largest city — a beautiful port city just south of Tokyo. Yet behind the skyline lies one of the most spiritually unreached nations on earth. Most Japanese people will live their whole lives without ever hearing the gospel from a friend.

I will be serving alongside Pastor Aiki Kage at Kohoku Newtown Bible Baptist Church — a Japanese church family eagerly laboring to reach their own city, and praying to see new churches planted across Japan.

What I am trusting God for.

The vision

Church planting

Japan needs more gospel-preaching churches. Serving alongside Kohoku Newtown Bible Baptist Church, I long to help start new churches — first in the Yokohama area, and then wherever God opens the door.

First years

Japanese language study

My first years in Japan are devoted to serious language and culture study, so I can preach, teach, and make friends in heart-level Japanese.

Next generation

Student evangelism & discipleship

Preaching and teaching in student evangelistic gatherings — investing in young people who will carry the gospel further than I ever could.

Church revivals

Across Japan, faithful churches are growing older and smaller, and aging pastors are retiring with no one to take their place. I long to help revive these churches — preaching, teaching, and encouraging believers so that the light does not go out in their communities.
